Elon Musk has had plenty to share with business owners over the years, and he's spent plenty of time thinking outside of the box, but his take on the chain of the command that more professional leaders should reflect in a world disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Here are three things according to Elon Musk

you should do to improve your chain of command. 

Number one, remove the hierarchy. The chain of command has long been a neighborhood of the corporate world. For Musk, however, that kind of hierarchy is a very inefficient system. When communications are being strapped up the chain of command, they can get stuck in bottlenecks. They may also change in attitude, reputation, or context as more people join them. Even if a message remains complete on its high, it may take too long to urge the proper person, creating potentially costly problems for the company. 

Number two, communication is key. In a letter penned to his Tesla employees in 2018, Musk says, "Communication should travel via the shortest path necessary to urge the work done, not through the 'chain of command.' Any manager who attempts to enforce chain of command communication will soon find themselves working elsewhere." A major source of issues in companies comes from when communication doesn't flow freely. As he told his Tesla employees, "It must be okay for people to speak directly and just make the right thing happen." 

Number three, adapt. Business leaders need to think seriously about blowing up that chain of command since it can easily fall short, during a time when businesses are stressed, nothing that hurts the company's ability to communicate should live on.
